Collection: Products to treat gravel rash, grazes, and friction wounds
Gravel rash, also known as road rash, is a type of skin injury caused by friction with rough surfaces. It often occurs during accidents involving activities like cycling, motorcycling, skateboarding, or running. Most road rash should heal within 2 weeks with proper care* but it’s important to monitor for signs of infection (pain, swelling, higher levels of wound fluid) so treatment is important.
Some advice on treatment would be:
- Clean the injury with a wound irrigation solution such as Granudacyn® Ensure that the skin surrounding the wound is dry.
- Cover the wound with a suitably sized dressing such as Mepilex® Border Flex, allowing a 2cm periphery around the wound to the edge of the dressings border.
- Change the dressing only when required. Mepilex Border Flex dressings are indicated for up to 7 days wear time, dependant on the condition of the wound. If the dressing looks to be full of wound fluid, change as required.
- If signs of Infection are present, use Mepilex Border Ag with silver to combat bacteria on the wound bed.
- Once healed, use a scar therapy product such as Mepiform® to prevent scar tissue formation.
